United States Judo Federation (USJF)

Shipyard Judo and its members are affiliated with USJF, the oldest national judo organization in the United States. The USJF provides development support, coach, and teacher certifications and is the organization which awards our black belt promotions.

USA Judo

USA Judo is the National Governing Body for judo in the United States. This is the primary organization for international judo competition from the US. Several of our instructors and competitors are members of this organization , in addition to USJF.

SafeSport

This program is required for certified coaches and is a promotion requirement for the black belt ranks. It is designed to instruct coaching and teachers how to spot and prevent abuse in sports. All of our coaches are certified with SafeSport Training.

Centers for Disease Control (CDC) HEADS UP Youth Concussion Training

CDC HEADS UP training is for coaches and teachers to combat the issues involved with concussions in youth sports. It is also a requirement for black belt promotions. All of our coaches are certified with this concussion training.

Judo Club Tatran Praha

In 2022 Shipyard Judo instructor Rob Schab (previously of SWOCC Judo) visited Prague in the Czech Republic. After a short visit with the head instructor Roman Kadlec, they became friends, sharing common perspectives on judo and its benefits. With these shared values Shipyard and Judo Club Tatran Praha became “Partner Dojos”. Judo truly has a global reach.

Kodokan Judo Institute

The original school of Judo founded by Jigoro Kano in 1882. Here is Sensei Roman from Judo Club Tatran Praha representing Shipyard Judo at his visit to the Kodokan this year.
